Draw seamless pixel art tiles

A tile that repeats must match itself at its edges. Pixelight's tiled mode draws across the edges and shows copies of the tile around it, so seams show while you draw.

Step by step

  1. Start a tile. A sprite of 16 × 16 or 32 × 32, or set a grid of that size on a larger sheet (Sprite › Grid settings).
  2. Turn on tiled mode. The tiled button in the tool options: strokes leaving one edge continue on the other.
  3. Look at the repeat. The neighbouring copies are drawn faintly around the tile; fix anything that lines up into stripes.
  4. Export. A PNG of the tile, or a sprite sheet of variations; extrude the edges when a game filters them.
